How to Plan a Family Camping Trip

Taking your family out for camping can be one of the best experiences all of you can enjoy. For children, camping could be an enriching family vacation that gives them a chance to go out on an adventure while connecting with nature. The kids will be able to unplug from the overwhelming exposure of technology or anything school-related.

To ensure that your kids and the entire family enjoy the most out of camping, you need to plan ahead. Here are some tips on how you can make your family camping trip a success:

Choose Your Destination

There are many camping sites in Australia. For example, you could go for in-the-wild camping sites. If you have little children, you might choose a kid-friendly place. Bringing along camp trailers would need you to select a location that has enough space to park.

How To Get There

Getting a camp trailer is one of the most convenient ways to get around during a family camping trip. You can comfortably go for long rides and make pitstops whenever you need to. Just make sure you have all the navigation tools that can be accessed online such as GPS or virtual apps and offline gadgets such as a map or compass.

Pick the Right Gear

You need to be fully equipped for every scenario that could happen in outdoor camping. With that in mind, you should include at least the following:

Tent with a ground cloth and rain fly

  • Sleepings bags with comforters
  • Camping mattresses
  • First aid kit
  • Raincoat or light-weight ponchos
  • Flashlights
  • Extra battery or energy power bank
  • Camping stove and fuel, if not available in the camp trailer
  • Water carriers
  • Sunscreen
  • Insect repellent
  • Camping cooler, if camping trailer doesn’t have a refrigerator.

Start Packing

Now that you have the list of items to bring, you ought to start packing. You can tell other family members to pack clothes appropriate for both hot and cold weather.

Plan your Snacks and Meals

A family camping trip is either going to be a long ride or packed with exciting activities. By the end of that, everyone is going to be hungry. Bring a lot of snacks, especially the favorites of your kids. Also, bring food that you can easily grill to engage your children in the cooking process later.

Structure Responsibilities

Everyone’s time in the family camping trip would be more memorable if involvement and responsibilities are shared. Prepare assignments for every member. They could take turns. You can post the list of tasks on a corkboard or in a place where everyone can see during the trip.

What Will You Do

To make the camping trip more enjoyable, plan your activities. For more outdoor fun, you can prepare kites, frisbees, swimming gears, or fishing equipment. At night, you can bring along stargazing kits or board games.

Don’t Over Plan

Sometimes parents tend to plan every detail of the camping trip. That’s completely normal. It pays to plan a little more than usual to make sure everyone is safe and happy. However, try not to overdo it. It is often the spontaneous moments that make the trip a positive experience for everyone.

There are many camping opportunities in Australia. If you want to make your camping trip comfortable yet exciting as ever, you ought to check out Swag Camper Trailers’ Campers and Hybrid Vans.

2020 CAMPER TRAILER OF THE YEAR

2020 CAMPER TRAILER OF THE YEAR – MOST FAMILY FRIENDLY CAMPER…!!!

Swag Camper Trailers have won the 2020 Camper Trailer of the Year Award for ‘MOST FAMILY FRIENDLY CAMPER’. The X13 Explorer Hybrid Van was put to the test in November 2019 and the results are clear.

If you are looking for a great all-round family van then look no further then the X13 Explorer 4-6 berth Family Hybrid.

“Our team have achieved their goal. We set out to create a family-friendly van that was easy to tow, simple to set up and was suitable for so many Australian families. It ticks the box for off-road capability and affordability so I couldn’t be prouder of everyone’s effort”
Adam Mathieson (General Manager)

Some of the judge’s comments:

“The Swag Raptor X13 Explorer is a 13ft hybrid aimed squarely at families and hits that target by combining a swag (pardon the pun!) of sleeping space and storage inside with a whole bunch of hybrid camper features. It has the potential to tap into that market for people who want to get their kids off the grid and show them what the outback is really like. If you have two or more kids you would, at a bare minimum, want to be looking at this camper.” – David Cook

“This camper holds the potential to get the next generation of little travellers into this Great Brown Land and making memories that will last a lifetime”. – Kath Heiman

This Swag hybrid has a level of robust redundancy that will get family groups ‘there and back’ — via the Outback- Scott Heiman

As with a lot of hybrids, an X-Factor is a quick set up and the large storage volume this style of camper affords, but with the Swag it’s also the focus on the internal living room, that is essentially all potential sleeping spots, and is capable of handling up to six easily – Tim Van Duyl

Caring For Camper Trailer Materials

Caring For Camper Trailer Materials

Your camper trailer materials come with a few different materials that all have their own special way of being taken care of. Today’s post gives insight on the best way to care for these camper trailer materials and potential issues if you don’t.

Materials in these cases refer to canvas, PVC and fabric materials.

  • The canvas camper trail materials should be clean, dry and free from dirt. If it’s wet when packed away, please erect as soon as possible to dry out & prevent mould stains. Most moulds need 24-48 hours of moisture to begin to grow. Therefore, if a suitable material in your camper/tent is wet for more than 24 hours then you run the risk of mould starting to grow. Many species of mould can begin to grow from humidity alone if the humidity stays high for long enough. In fact, the humidity only needs to be higher than 55% before some moulds can begin to grow.
  • Always ensure spreader bars are used when applicable to prevent any pooling occurring. Spreader bars are to help minimize the chance of pooling, these are recommended to be used for every camping trip. Please note; additional spreader bars can be purchased from us.
  • Zippers and press studs are delicate items and care must always be taken when using them.
  • When not in use we recommend the use of a travel cover or vehicle cover to protect from the elements

Other Issues

Our campers are constructed to rigid specifications. However, they should not be left unattended for long periods of time during inclement weather. Long periods of rain may soak the ground. This can cause pegs to become loose and/or the frame uprights may sink into the ground. One or both of the above weaken the rigidity of the overall structure since its strength depends upon the structure being taut at all times.

Water pockets may form in the roof if the unit is not erected taut, further adding to the load on the frame and possibly causing a broken frame as well as roof leakage.
